Enjoyment is part of the plan!

We believe life is to be enjoyed.  How ever you want to spend your spare time there’s an activity waiting for you here in Peterborough.  Walks in the beautiful countryside, sport, music, theatre – Peterborough has it all.  And more….

Business in Peterborough

Business in Peterborough is flourishing.  Local companies are expanding and new companies are moving into the city from across the UK and overseas.  New enterprises are being established and flourishing in Peterborough’s ‘can do’ business culture.

Alongside the newcomers you’ll find established public and private sector organisations firmly embedded in the city, sitting side-by-side with a wide range of manufacturing and service businesses.

Peterborough is building world-leading business clusters in environmental goods, services and advanced engineering; in food production and processing; in financial services; and in digital media, printing and publishing.  We’re backing these clusters with investment in such things as business support, training and a new eco-innovation centre.

Transport

A unique ‘parkway’ ring-road system eases traffic in the city centre while a network of footpaths and cycle routes offer easy access to urban centres and countryside.  Public transport links all areas of the city with surrounding towns and villages.

Education

Peterborough offers students a world of opportunities.  There is a sixth form at every one of the city’s secondary schools, providing a wide choice of courses.  Peterborough Regional College which is planning a £75 million redevelopment, offers further full- and part-time education for professional, vocational and academic qualifications up to degree level.

The range of activities on offer is impressive, as is the choice of restaurants, bars and shops.  Plans for substantial growth over the next few years will bring an even wider range of facilities.

Healthcare

Your health is in safe hands in Peterborough.  The city’s excellent healthcare facilities are being expanded with new primary care and hospital developments, including a £300 million investment in a new acute hospital, mental health unit and integrated care centre.

Shopping

It isn’t just about the shops – the surrounding environment is key to an enjoyable shopping experience.  In Peterborough you can shop in pedestrianised streets, covered malls and easily accessible retail parks.  From designer boutiques to department stores, market stalls to high street chains, Peterborough has it all, in an environment that makes shopping a pleasure.

The award-winning Queensgate Centre has over 90 stores in spacious malls.  Traffic-free streets lined with shops and cafes link Queensgate to the Rivergate Centre, where the shopping continues.

Following the development of North Westgate the city centre will boast an additional major department store along with other shops, restaurants and a cinema.

Heading out of the city centre there are a number of ‘retail parks’ plus additional shopping centres at Hampton, Bretton, Orton and Werrington.

The natural environment

Peterborough acts as a link between three surrounding ecosystems – limestone uplands to the west and north, the River Nene Washes to the east and the fens to the south.  There are a number of wildlife sites and nature reserves within the city, some of which are home to rare insects and birds.

Parkland alongside the River Nene brings the countryside right into the city centre.

Because of our focus on sustainability, the environment plays an important role in Peterborough.  We are one of only four Environment Cities in Britain and we plan to become the nation’s ‘Environment Capital’.

Culture, sport and leisure

Whether you’re looking to be entertained, amused, or want something to exercise you mind or body (or both!), Peterborough has something to offer.

The museum and art gallery, the Norman Cathedral and the Bronze Age archaeological site at Flag Fen are among many places with historical interest.  Football fans can watch Peterborough United at their home ground, for ice hockey fans there’s the Peterborough Phantoms and for speed freaks there’s speedway team Peterborough Panthers.  For the active types there’s an athletic stadium, a rowing lake, public and private golf courses, sports centres and more.  For the adrenaline junkies there’s a parachute centre, a dry ski slope and a water sports centre.  Yoga, archery, climbing, ice skating – Peterborough has it all.

If you’d rather watch than take part then sit back, relax and enjoy the show at one of Peterborough’s theatres or take in a movie at one of the cinemas.  A wide range of restaurants, pubs and clubs offer everything from relaxed environments with local ales to music and dancing into the early hours.

Housing

Peterborough's vast selection of houses provides outstanding quality and value.  The area offers homes for a fraction of the price of similar properties in London, despite being only 50 minutes away.

The thousands of new homes being built in new developments in and around Peterborough provide a steadily widening choice of house types and location.  Small towns and villages within easy travelling distance of Peterborough give a huge choice of rural homes.

Environmentally friendly homes are being built in the city centre as we see the heart of the city becoming even more vibrant.
