A Director, John joined Greenwoods in 1989 and has specialised in employment and discrimination law since qualifying in 1991. John has a wealth of experience in advising on all aspects of employment law and has spent significant time ‘at the sharp end’, arguing clients’ cases at tribunal.
The 2006 edition of The Legal 500 states that John is 'highly regarded by clients'. Chambers and Partners "A Client's Guide to the Legal Profession 2007" also recognises John's expertise, remarking on his “impressive understanding of the employer’s point of view", and noting that he is “highly capable of appreciating the challenges facing business and industry". The 2008 edition of 'Chambers' adds "Clients admire him for his “easy explanations of complex and technical points".
John leads the Department’s training programme, delivering seminars and workshops, both regionally and nationally, on a wide range of topics such as discrimination, data protection, workplace consultation, stress at work and cyber liability to diverse audiences including HR professionals, owners/ managers, in-house lawyers, doctors and occupational health professionals.
John recognises the importance of the human element in any employment matter; he has a degree in Psychology and is a trained counsellor, specialising in the ‘person-centred’ approach. His skill is therefore to deliver practical solutions that will actually work in the highly complex field of human relationships.
