CJRS Extended and JSS Postponed

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (“CJRS”), which was due to end on 31 October 2020, has now been extended to support employers and employees during the forthcoming second national lockdown.

The CJRS will now remain available to employers until December 2020.  The level of support available under the extended CJRS is the same as was available in August 2020 i.e. the Government will pay 80% of wages up to a cap of £2,500.  Flexible furloughing and full-time furloughing are both allowed.

We are awaiting further guidance on the extended CJRS and the Government will also confirm when claims can first be made in respect of employee wage costs during November.  However, we understand that there will be no gap in eligibility between the previously announced end-date and the date of this extension.

The new Job Support Scheme (“JSS”), which was due to come into effect on 1 November 2020, has been postponed until the CJRS ends and all guidance on the JSS has been withdrawn.
