Providing integral support to the Disputes team

Jane Mirembe

Solicitor

Our Disputes team has grown significantly over the last few years, with many lateral partner hires specialising in a variety of sectors. Junior lawyers, including Jane, provide integral support to partners to ensure a cost-effective, efficient service. We describe the junior lawyers in our Disputes team as our “engine room”, vital to running a case, taking a hands-on approach, under supervision, with key phases of litigation right from pre-action through to trial/settlement, and building strong working relationships with clients.

Jane’s recent work experience includes:

  • Assisting Euan Palmer on a high-value SOCAR arbitration relating to an oil and gas dispute. Amongst other work for this dispute, Jane managed the highly time-pressured disclosure process.
  • Jane has independently run several County Court cases. The most recent involves acting for a defendant in the oil and gas industry in a claim for damages in the sum of circa £100,000. Jane conducts regular risk analyses for the client, drafts applications and ensures compliance with the CPR at each stage of the claim. Following a successful result, she is now further supporting the client by appealing an order for security for costs.
  • In her previous firm, Simmons & Simmons, Jane handled over 200+ cases acting for a British multinational universal bank on all its County Court claims, mainly relating to PPI claims. Jane managed these cases through all phases of the litigation, including acknowledging service, drafting witness statements, drafting instructions to counsel, updating the client, taking instructions and advising on next steps.

Personally:

  • Jane is heavily involved with a community enrichment organisation, World Lanterns, whose core values include the “business of changing and shaping lives”, helping to solve some of our society’s biggest challenges, empowering and creating opportunities for individuals and communities. Jane supports young people to prepare CVs and apply for university places.
  • In July 2022, Jane helped to organise World Lantern’s “She is Royal” annual conference designed to encourage and empower women by discussing important topics such as burn-out, women in the workplace, dealing with finances, wellness and self-development.
  • Jane is a key member of our Diversity, Fairness & Inclusion (DF&I) Forum.
