You should expect your lawyer to pick up the phone. To explain things in plain English. To tell you when something’s going to cost more than it’s worth. To flag issues before they become problems, not after.

You should expect them to know your business well enough that you’re not explaining the basics every time you speak. And when you need an answer quickly, you shouldn’t have to chase them for it.

None of this is radical – it’s just decent service. But it’s surprisingly rare in law firms that are either too big to care or too set in their ways to change.
