Wealth Preservation: Meet Rebecca Towey

From around the age of 13, I wanted to be a solicitor. However, I had no idea what area of law I wanted to practice in and this was still true after graduating from university. Following completion of the Legal Practice Course, I eventually began working at a law firm which undertook a restructuring whilst I worked there.  As a result, I was moved to the Private Client team and have never looked back!

In 2017, I realised my dream of qualifying as a solicitor and there was no doubt as to the department I wanted to spend the remainder of my career in.  Working in the Wealth Preservation team brings new challenges almost daily.  No two clients or matters are the same and often, taking a practical approach is just as important as ensuring legalities are followed.

Being a Wealth Preservation solicitor allows me to meet new people and build relationships with them as well as to deal with complex areas of the law.  My role covers all aspects of Wealth Preservation work and I enjoy the variety and getting to know the people I am acting for as I assist them with their personal or family affairs.

I am currently studying towards the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners’ diploma in Trusts and Estates in England and Wales.  Many members of our team are Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEPs) and I hope by the end of this year to be able to say the same.

In my spare time, I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible (weather permitting!). My main outdoor passion is horse riding which I took up around three years ago.  A definite benefit of moving from a big city to somewhere closer to countryside!  I also enjoy hiking and have made short breaks to the Peak District and Dartmoor a regular occurrence in my calendar.

When not outdoors, I love going to the theatre and will give any genre of production a watch.  Like lots of things, this hasn’t been possible since the Covid-19 pandemic but I have a list of performances I would like to watch once the theatres reopen. In addition, I made a resolution at the start of the year to start volunteering at my local theatre and hopefully I’ll be able to do this once the theatre is back up and running.
