Introducing Isobel Ryan-Dalton, following her successfully qualifying as a solicitor!

What was your favourite seat and why?
Corporate & Commercial, of course! During my seat, I got to work on some amazing deals, including assisting with the work on a complex multi-jurisdictional acquisition with split exchange and completion and complex financing arrangements. I enjoyed the excitement of participating in a large piece of M&A work and working so closely with the team and our client to get the best result!

What made you want to qualify into Corporate & Commercial?
I enjoyed all my seats on my training contract in different ways, so choosing where I wanted to qualify was a struggle. Ultimately, I had to think about what I could imagine myself doing for the rest of my working life (a scarily big commitment!), and Corporate & Commercial felt like the perfect fit. I love the variety of work, which means you could be drafting online terms and conditions one day and then advising on the sale of a multi-million-pound business the next! I also love the variety of clients we deal with. Understanding their business and what is important to them is essential to advising them well, and I find that so interesting! No agreement or deal is the same, which meant Corporate & Commercial felt like something that could keep me busy!

What is your main takeaway from your trainee experience?
Just how quickly it goes! I feel like I only started at Greenwoods yesterday, and I almost can’t believe here I am two years later and qualified.

What is one piece of advice you would give to any future trainees?
This is very hard! I think the most important thing is not to be afraid to ask questions—no one is expecting you to know everything at this phase of your career! Your supervisors are experts in their respective fields and have a wealth of knowledge that you can tap into—use them!
