Employment Rights Bill – what’s happening now?

There has been yet more excitement as we edge ever closer to the Employment Rights Bill (‘ERB’) becoming law.

On Tuesday, the government published responses to five consultation papers:

  1. strengthening statutory sick pay for lower paid employees;
  2. increasing the maximum award payable to employees for fire and rehire practices from 90 to 180 days’ pay;
  3. resetting and modernising the industrial relations framework;
  4. ending ‘exploitative zero hours contracts’; and
  5. tackling non-compliance in the umbrella company market.

Yesterday, the House of Commons released a whopping 215-page paper setting out amendments to the ERB.  This morning that paper has been updated further (you can view the paper in full here).  This document is lengthy and we have spotted some significant further updates that will impact all businesses going forward.  We are working hard to make sense of the details so that you don’t have to, and will have an in depth update for you on this next week!

Don’t forget – we’re hosting our #EmploymentLawNowLive events in London, Peterborough and Cambridge in a few weeks, which will provide the most up to date insights into the ERB changes that you and your organisation will need to prepare for. Here’s the link if you’re not already signed up – hurry though as spaces are limited!
