Jim Boff
Partner, Intellectual Property
With over 40 years’ experience in IP Jim has a wealth of knowledge as an intellectual property practitioner in a diverse range of technologies. Practising primarily in patent preparation, prosecution, and opposition he is also experienced in trademarks, IP licensing, and patent portfolio management.
Jim’s expertise spans an impressive range of technologies. From ceramics and polymers to nanomaterials and biotechnology, he navigates complex fields, including energy storage, medical devices, and chemical engineering processes.
Jim’s experience as an inventor in areas such as battery technology and graphite applications enriches his understanding of clients’ innovative work.
Jim’s knowledge of European Patent Office law and practice stems from his tenure as an examiner for European qualifying examinations and his ongoing role on the Standing Advisory Committee before the European Patent Office (SACEPO). This perspective proves invaluable in guiding clients through intricate patent procedures.
A respected voice in the IP community, Jim contributes to the CIPA Journal and epi information, and has spoken at international gatherings of IP professionals, including events hosted by the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the All China Patent Attorneys Association.
