Provides integral support with all phases of litigation and disputes

Payal Patel

Senior Paralegal

Litigation and court cases can often be extremely stressful. Multitasking, organising, and working under pressure are some of the key skills (amongst others) a paralegal must have. As a vital part of the team, Payal is ready to tackle anything and everything, from assisting with extensive disclosure reviews to preparing and filing urgent court applications and proceedings. Payal therefore provides the team with integral support to ensure all phases of litigation and disputes are run as smoothly as possible.

Payal works with all members of the Disputes team, across all its sub-specialisms including Construction and Property Disputes.  Payal has assisted with matters in almost all the major courts, including in the Supreme Court, and keeps up to date with the ever-changing court guidelines and procedures.

Payal’s dedication, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills means that she adds real value.  And, her attention to detail in a recent case was a key contribution to securing a successful outcome.

Payal has supported the Disputes team on a variety of cases including:

  • Assisting with the extensive disclosure on an £8m claim relating to an alleged MTIC fraud;
  • R (on the application of Derry) (Respondent) v Commissioners for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (Appellant) [2019] – acting for the Respondent in relation to HMRC’s appeal to the Supreme Court regarding the correct deduction of loss relief in a self-assessment tax form;
  • Assisting with disclosure on a reported unfair prejudice claim with a value of circa £2.5m relating to a former motor racing/property investment business;
  • Assisting, and liaising with clients, with the preparation of residential possession proceedings; and
  • Assisting with the Trial preparation in an “all or nothing” shareholders’ dispute.

Payal is a member of the London Young Lawyers Group.
