Removing complexity and delivering effective asset planning to benefit clients and their families

Robert Payne

Managing Associate

Private client work involves helping individuals and their families to plan for the future.  This may involve advising them on a potential move abroad, working with them to ensure that assets are protected for a vulnerable family member, considering efficient ways of owning real estate or helping them to provide for how their assets should be dealt with after their lifetimes.

Robert has a sensitive and clear manner.  He enjoys working with the clients to help them obtain the best outcomes for themselves and their loved ones.  His work often involves international elements and he enjoys co-ordinating cross border estate planning issues.

Robert studied Medieval and Modern History at Birmingham University before studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Law.

He has advised on private client, succession planning and tax issues for more than fifteen years, with a focus on international tax and estate planning.  This included a period of a little more than two and a half years living in Zurich, where he worked for an international trustee company.  He then returned to London with the same trustee group before returning to private practice.  This experience has given him a particular focus in advising on trusts, foundations, partnerships and companies that own family assets (including how these may be of benefit and related tax and compliance considerations).

Robert advises clients on all aspects of their succession planning, including their Wills, making gifts, lifetime trusts and powers of attorney.  He often works with clients on UK residence and domicile issues and helps those who are planning to move to, or depart, the UK.

Robert has experience in all aspects of UK personal taxation and compliance.

Robert joined Greenwoods with the rest of the London private client team from Ince & Co.

He is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians.
